Netflix probably ruins Anime. 2023-12-24 18:33:03

This is 50/50 a rant and my thoughs about what Netflix did good and wrong.

After killing Full Metal Alchimist.

Ruining Cowboy Bebop.

And absolutely destroying Erased to the bone.

I am somehow tired of Netflix who tries to make fucking live adaptations, after live adaptations!

Yeah they did justice to One Piece and Rurouni Kenshin!

But now they keep going into destroying stories they were never involved to begin with, only to slap that "N for Netflix original" on the cover, and yeah I am not stupid.

I am not watching their takes on anything, yes they made 2 good live adaptation.

But because they cared, for once..

So overall, I wish they finance a season 2 of Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunner and that the new Devil May Cry anime slap ass.

But for god sake netflix! Give money to real people that care about what they do rather than shitting on the

source material! I fucking hated Cowboy Bebop adaptation for the fact they didn't try to take their time

on it at all. Yeah sure Jet is black in it, but who cares. He wasn't the problem, he was just a side character

and they put too much none sense in the script.

Ed look like a fucking retard, one of my favorite funny character for being the comic relief in the anime!

I was baffled by this.

So, here is the idea Netflix.. Finance the animation but don't waste money on live adaptations.

That's it!

----------------------

Give your thoughs if you want to rant or say anything about Netflix decisions for the animes that are getting ruined

by their stupid tries.

Also on a good note, Castlevania was one of the best anime I ever watched on Netflix.

Reject Netflix's high production sludge.

Embrace Newgrounds no budget gems.

The problem with Netflix is the writers and directors it has to produce them shows, guess the pool of people they have on staff is more interested in pushing an idea than respecting the source material.

I agree. Newgrounds is ground breaking and way more respectful to the audience than Netflix ever did.

At least NG freaking know how to make people laugh, think and make gems!

@Skoops made a good point on the “design tropes you hate” thread. He can correct me if I’m summarizing it wrong.

There is no “pushing an idea” to be had in modern TV, except for the writers’ ideas for original stories they’d rather be directing instead. Netflix is hiring people who don’t care about the IP they’re going to write for, and forcing them to do whatever makes the company a bottom line. Negative attention and divided fandoms are just other words for viral marketing. It’s all about making it cheaply by hiring people without the self-respect to say “no”, and getting audiences to talk about it.

That’s also why these people get so defensive when called out for “ruining” a show. What you’re really insulting is their own original idea, or at least that’s how it feels to them. No one likes to have their own story hate-mobbed. Unfortunately, there’s a difference between truly original works and the mutant hybrids made under these business practices.

Depends on the team of animators and directors behind the films being made.

Newgrounds pretty much is a host to all sorts of different independent animators, artists, musicians, writers, game designers, and so on that ultimately can break into the professional side of things if they put the effort into it.

More or less got it. Streaming services are basically just content mills, so they don't care if they get the right team for any given job. When you do that in a creative field, you're basically inviting showrunners to graft their incompatible ideas to a project they otherwise have no passion for. In worst case scenarios, they're not just apathetic to the source material, they seem actively resentful or contemptuous towards it. Not only did nobody ask for these adaptations, they're also not for anyone.

The latest travesty on my mind is the Yu Yu Hakusho live adaptation, which I think sucks for different reasons. I could only stomach about 20 minutes of it, but from what I saw, I think they might have actually watched the show. The issue with that one, beyond the incompetent pacing, lazy scene compositions, and attempts to condense 3 different plotlines into one, they just can't capture any of the humor or heart of the original, opting instead to say "make it more epic" whenever they're in doubt, which is always. It's got the Bebop issue where it looks like a cosplay group and a vfx artist got together to make a joke trailer for youtube, but it never ends. Like "ha, yeah I get it, that would be pretty lame. Good parody. ...Ok you can stop now. ...please stop. ...STOP."

Ehh... There has been some hits and misses when it comes to anime with Netflix, its just when they miss, it misses hard. It should be obvious, but anime on Netflix isn't exactly a huge priority and fwiw, they don't really seem to get anime. (TBF, most others non-anime streaming sites struggle with this) In a world where streaming is near ubiquitous and a hunger for content, you'd take just about any show and basically cross your fingers.

It's been a long time ago, but compared to companies like Dic and 4kids bastardizing anime, (there is some nuance that goes into all this, but that's for a different topic) Netflix at their worst at least doesn't completely shit on anime as a whole, even if they don't understand what makes anime...well, anime.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I know, that remark was made on purpose. But still I feel like netflix is doing random things.

Netflix bought a first class ticket onto the train of businesses that will run the earth into the ground. Cancel your Netflix subscription, cancel your Hulu subscription, cancel all of your subscriptions (except your Newgrounds subscription of course).

STOP PAYING FOR MEDIA THEY DON'T ACTUALLY LET YOU KEEP!!!

The good thing with all this is - cancel sub, do not consume. they do not care of posts in socials, they care about subs.

I have no Netflix and do not miss out anything. I have HBO because its free and all Disney films I get for free 3 months after they in cinema. I cannot watch those past trailer, I already am bored.

Just watch what is appealing and pay for services that offer quality product. It is as easy. Honest.

A second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners would make zero sense, the first season already had a very, very definitive ending.

That aside, live action adaptations of anime just don't really make sense to me. People like anime because they are animated, people like cartoons because they are animated. A live action adaptation of a video game makes sense to me, because it makes the thing more accessible for people that don't want to put effort into the playing of a video game. However, an anime is just as accessible as any other show live action or not.

I know, Edgerunner is kinda over with one season..

But I would love to see Lucy going forward, in a OVA or something that conclude the knot.

Yeah, the idea that video games should be in movies and series is one thing I keep thinking about..

The essence of a video game though, is that you can control the story and do anything.

What I would love to see is Last of Us, before Joel meet Ellie. And how he got so ruthless and

his experience by being an outlaw. He did many crimes in his past and I kinda want to see that.

Oh please, give me a break, Netflix ruins everything they touch. Why is anime some outlier to you?
