Wheter it be a girl with long black hair and hime cut bangs or a guy who totally isn't just a self insert with more "attractive" features, show off your most "donut steel"

Nope.

It sounds like you found the comic that worked better for you! Why not declare that one canon and say that the old one is just an early attempt you made while finding the right idea?

Oh the comic I'm working on right now is completely separate from MikoMooMaa

MikoMooMaa has always been a struggle to figure out where I wanna head with it

Do I wanna make it more comedic? More story focused? A slice of life? A drama? I hope to finally figure everything out by 2025

It. Sucks.

Tomorrow is gonna be it's 1 year anniversary so I reread it and...it's so bad, I worked MONTHS on this and it's so fucking bad.

The panels, the lazy work on the backgrounds, the goddamn story that was meant to be much longer but due to me getting bored I cut it short leading to a bunch of things being set up but never actually executed...

After it ended I tried huffing copium, telling myself "Oh it's not that bad, I made much worse comics before it" but that doesn't really change how cringy it still is

It'll be around 50k words and have a relatively large cast (3 main characters, 8 side characters and a few miscellaneous characters needed for specific scenes)

These are them, the girls at the top are the main ones
When you see these characters, what do you think of them?

What setting are they from? Where do you think they should belong? Can you guess their personality from the design alone? Which character seems like they would have a large role in the VN? Anything like that

They were largely inspired by Muppets, Sesame street and Naruto characters
Something that's keeping me from thinking of these characters as playing distinct roles in a story is the fact that they all use the exact same mannequin. Different body types and proportions are a major factor of character design that help inform their personalities and roles, and that's missing here. Taken one at a time, I can probably guess what they'd be like, but as an ensemble with everyone placed next to each other, they start to lose their individuality. It's hard to tell who would be a lead character or a support character without being told, and despite having different clothes and hair styles, they feel mostly interchangeable.

Seems like you have a decent set of ideas here, you just need to keep developing them until I could pick a silhouette off of a lineup and make a good guess at what their role is.

yeeea....distinct body types are one of my weaknesses...

I did try to make them more unique by making some characters slightly chubbier or slighly thinner. Some of them have a more mature-ish/going through puberty body type (these characters are in the fifth/sixth grade) but they look still really uniform gotta agree

Hopefully it won't be too much of a issue for when the game comes out, I mean, a visual novel with characters who look very similar/have the same body type is like finding a piece of hay in a haystack 😅

7, Ingrid Goldprice

She's a mix of a tomboy but also a girlie girl...huh, would that just make her androgynous? 🤔

8, Katie Tanaka

Old school lmao, well, her design IS based on a mish mash of hippie fashion so that's pretty accurate

9, Olivia Mel

Her dress was a bit too complicated in her previous design so I wanted to simplify it, I didn't even notice that it had a hand-made feel to it!

10, Elijah Sweetgrave

GAMER KID?!....hm, the green and the symbols does kinda remind me of Xbox now that you mention it

11, Rosario Catapang

"Gets dress coded" 🤣

So next year I am gonna be finishing up a script and then programm a visual novel in Renpy

Binging vs Weekly episode Posted 11 days ago in Animation

Which way of watching a series do you prefer?

In the years of streaming it's become pretty common for a network to drop a whole bunch of episodes for a series at once so the viewer is able to watch it all in one sitting. This can be convient as some people no longer have the schedule to watch a specific show at a specific time anymore

I myself am at a point in life where I just can't wait week after week for an episode that may suck, has little to no plot progression or is just a goddamn clipshow.

However it also has had MASSIVE negative impact

For one, animated shows will often be incredibly short now. A season on things like Netflix, Dicksney+ or Max will typically consist of 10 ~ 12 episodes or less. There will then be a maaaassive gap until season 2 which doesn't really feel like a second season at all, and instead just feels like the second part to the first season (if you can understand what I mean)

It has also killed weekly excitement and a large part of discussion within fandoms. A lot of series get cancelled (sometimes after just one season) even when they were critically acclaimed and beloved

Many anime/cartoons are treated as a cog in the machine rather than their own thing, completely replacable by whatever pops off next

Which way do you prefer? Binging format or weekly/monthly release?

Response to: Any anime surprised you this season? Posted 2 weeks ago in Animation

Beyblade X is actually pretty dang good, so I was surprised when a lot of the current fanbase seem to dislike it?

Some complain about the often kind of cheap or crappy animation which...yeah? That's the case for pretty much every iteration? They have a buttload of kind of bad looking episodes and then there will be that one which blasts you in the face with it's Sakuga, that has been the case ever since like...forever, in general kids anime especially

Just take a look at Ninjala or Shinkalion

You want to write a cool character? Who's the coolest person you know? There you go. They're not a walking exaggerated cartoon, they're real. Man who can't write believable female characters? That's because wish fulfillment gets old the tenth time. You want inspiration? Take your mom, your aunt, your classmates, your coworkers, your teachers. It's not hard.

Want your stories to be believable? Take inspiration from the most believable thing in existence.

I think the problem with that is, I don't really have anyone in my real life relationship who I would consider cool

My personal image of cool in general is like...very different from the typical image, and the character very specifically needs to have this kind of chill, laid back and popular personality type for their role in the story

It IS that hard for some, bud

Currently debating with myself if I should start doing Chapter 11 now or take a break for the holidays...I wanna expand my story but I also wanna sleep and eat ice cream all day

Response to: Need some character design critique Posted 2 weeks ago in Art

I might simplify some stuff such as that thingamajic on her arm

The wrapped coat around her hips might also get a bit difficult to draw for more dynamic poses, I'd suggest perhaps making her wear a ripped up lab coat or have her wear a vest instead

I can't imagine myself ever finding a literature piece scary. Like, it's just words on a page. Whenever there are some accompanying images I find myself a little spooked but, otherwise, nothing

I do like it, but I've never been able to understand people who say they were scared while reading a certain horror book, the most I got was a feeling of disgust from overly detailed gory scenes or just plain terrible scenarios (Such as pretty much everything in Guts by Chuck Pahlaniuk)

Have you ever gotten legitimately scared from reading something, with no images or music to accompany it?

I love, love, LOOOVE World of Horror but WOW do I fucking suck at it

I'm pretty bad with the battle system and keep forgetting the flags for the events, even the ones I've seen like 10 times already

Still the visuals are ✨amazing✨ and the development history is really inspiring!!!

We all have strenghts, but also weaknesses that just can't be quite overcome when it comes to writing

Sometimes you want to create a character who acts in a certain way, but they just don't come out quite right or sound robotic because you have no goddamn clue how to write a character like this "correctly"

You can't get into their head, but you still need them for a specific role in the story so you try your best even if it still comes out kind of...rusty

For me it has to be "cool" characters, like the sunglasses indoors kind

Most of my characters are very much over emotional or exaggerated, cool characters tend to be more held back and rarely emote since they have a #icecold attitude and a mysterious aura

Response to: Want a formal Art Critique? Posted 2 weeks ago in Art

Sounds interesting

The piece I want to be critiqued is the cover I made for my webcomic

A big part of the comic's story will be about Ella's and Pfi's relationship and their pasts, how they influence eachother and what is truly important to them. The world? Or their friendship?

Right now the comic is still in it's early stages and I still need to properly set up the plot and introduce all the characters, but I'm already finished with introduction arc (Chapters 1 ~ 6)

What do you think of it for now as an early cover, where their relationship is a bit more distant?

iu_1131427_8710555.webp

I also have an olde placeholder cover for comparison, where the story was still a bit more loose and I didn't quite know where I wanted to focus on with the story
