Response to: Shadow the Hedgehog Posted May 30th, 2019 in Video Games

Even if it was an awful game, I'd buy it. Sonic games lost that edge that had between sonic adventure 1 and sonic 2006, something valuable was lost in the purge of badness.

Even the Shadow the Hedgehog game, as awful as it was, had heart and a weirdly interesting plot.

I even hoped Sonic Forces had something, but no, it was shit. everything is shit now, I want my good bad games back.

Response to: best engine for point and click 2d? Posted May 30th, 2019 in Game Development

Adventure Game Studio is a nice one, I like it, a lot, but It only makes desktop versions I think and the engine is pretty limited.

But in the end you should go to a more open ended engine, and search for tutorials, just because you could then move to other types of games without relearning an engine.

I'm sure there's plenty of tutorials or even asset packs for unity, game maker, godot, etc that would suffice for you to have no need of coding the essential parts of a dialogue system and puzzle systems. so go for one of those engines.

Also there's RenPy, I know its a visual novel engine, but with some creativity I've seen miracles made with that.

A shame that I actually started with HTML5 games (just because the engines I was using exported on that) and the last few months I actually was doing some work in flash, learning how to use it to make content. welp, time to move on, and forget what I learned.

Response to: About VR... Posted May 14th, 2017 in Video Games

While I'm with you 100% on that things are more complex than simply swap monitors for example.

Until one format dominates over other we won't be seeing a standard for all of them. Valve are trying to give the tools to anyone that wants to make a vr headset. there is OpenVR, and looks like the only jerks are the oculus ones (as far as I'm aware). every headset on the market uses different tracking methods, different screens and lenses, so while you see them working almost identically any game that wants to work on multiple headsets (Oculus and vive for example) Have to be idividually set up to those headsets has almost to work double on implementing VR(OSVR tries to make an API for both but not all engines/developers are supporting it).

I suspect that if the VR market doesn't die from starvation and boredom in a couple of years we should have one that has dominated and then everybody will use those standards, then all the games released for VR would work on anything. (I hope oculus doesn't win because they are the ones putting the restrictions atm).

Response to: PRAISE THE SUN! Posted April 1st, 2017 in NG News

The sun is a symbol of the toxic masculinity and causes cancer!

I suggest we use the symbol of femininity Mother Selene, aka the moon as a renewable source of enery, she is so kind that filters the cancerous light of father sun and gives us a better an more soft light caress.

Praise Selene!

Edit: lol. I've been trolled even here "moon". Good check mate @tomfulp!

And no, NG isn't losing money because it sucks and is dying. We're getting hammered by declining ad rates and ad blockers. We're blacklisted by Google Ads, which makes us blacklisted by Google-owned DoubleClick and any ad network that ties into Google services. We don't track weird personal details about our users and share it with marketers. We have indecent content but we're one of the last decent websites and we're 100% independent.

Looks like the ad revenue of every site is getting worse over the time. People use Ad block because ads became intrusive (I'm one of them) but when a site is worth I don't mind whitelisting it, I did it with youtube and NG too (Until I became a supporter). But more and more people using adblock doesn't use the whitelisting feature at all.
Also Youtube gives the option to the creator on how intrusive the ads are, and there are a lot of them that don't look to put them sensibly.

Finally, I like this video a lot, and also puts the hard truth about staying true to the artists freedom not being so profitable. And that's a shame.

Until ads become less intrusive and more "cool" people prefer not to look at them. Ad companies are trying by looking at what you like, but that has 2 problems, one privacy and the other, that looks like that way is already failing, for example I recieve ads about McDonalds not because is a recomendation or something about, but because My phone picked my location on one McDonalds, and now the ads think I want McDonalds ads, but I already ate there, so pleas dont spam me with more BicMacs.

Response to: Construct 3 Game Jam & Other News! Posted March 24th, 2017 in NG News

Great! I'll check it out, an engine that is entirely browser based sounds cool, I tried Construct 2 and it was cool but i prefered game maker for the time being. But the browser based thing is a good addition to it to recheck the engine.

Great news that Newgrounds partnered with the Construct devs!

I'm an advocate for old little known games and this is one of my all time favorites(Not the greatest games of all time, it has some issues but it's a great pre 2000 game). To play this you need some patches but is easy to set up.

Here you can find some downloads for it and the community

Also this if you can.

Response to: The best Tracker out there? Posted February 17th, 2017 in Audio

I personally use deflemask because at the moment I was searching for megadrive style sounds. and I like how can be used with a midi keyboard, writing one note at a time with the other hand free to change the spacing, utting stops and changing octaves for example. When I tried to use something more professional i found out that the quickest way to compose is recording real time with the keyboard. thing that I'm not so gifted atm.

I still didn't looked up your recomendations maybe there is one that I find better, but now unles I deliberately need to compose something that isnt Chiptune i prefer using a tracker.

Response to: Your favorite movie of the year ? Posted February 17th, 2017 in General

It had to be Deadpool, after so many years on hold, finally came out, and even the stroy wasn't that original It show that the public can take a well made (and made with care also) dumb rated-R movie like in hte 80s and 90s, When all the blockbusters are PG-13 movies become very boring.

But then...

Arrival happened, I was blown away after so much action movies with almost the same plot this movie appeared, makin a better version of "love solves everything" Interstellar tried to do (the weakest part of Interstellar was that bit.)

So I really don't know witch to choose...
If it were for the influence, I'd like Deadpool more, but clearly Arrival is a better movie in general even if is not too groundbreaking.

Do you know how to make the scoreboards work yet?

I'm also interested, I'm not a programer (a real one) so outside the engines I use I'm very lost when coding. Sometimes I stumble to a solution, but doing a proper extension that can use all the api functions is out of my reach. :S

I used a javascript that another user created, that script only has medals and also uses the old api, Newgrounds now uses a new one more compatible with html5 but I've been pretty unlucky making it work in Game Maker.
