About 18 hours left until the poll closes!
Surprising to see so many ties! Hopefully, they’ll be a few tie breakers before tomorrow at 12:59PM!

Maybe. Maybe not. It’s still anyone’s game!

Well I hope you get that prize soon!

Worse part is this person was on MJ server, when I was (I was in closed beta and a bit after it opened to public and left then, when it started to bore me beyond imagination)- and he didn't even invent the prompt he used to win this. And no way judges were able to tell the lie that they didn't know it was AI. they knew it.
Also last night saw a AI-generating person say that crafting prompts is as hard as drawing if not harder .
So then there's that - unless said competition uses proper moderation tools and bans machine generated images, then contests nowadays are useless as well.
In some art contest they found out a person using AI just because the muppet in their layered artwork had forgotten to change name of their MJ generated image.
Art contests are not what they used to be. Those trolls genuinely believe that their prompting is harder than drawing.
I have some things in regards to A.I, especially when it comes to my own contest; however, I’m keeping it classified until the day I announce it since I need to bring up one of the contest’s more crucial criteria.

I once joined the school's art competition and everyone had high hopes for me because I always draw. Unfortunately, the competition wasn't about drawing, but coloring and I basically had no skill. They had already printed the outlines so my drawing skills were useless. Apparently, I was crying during the competition and it didn't help that we were tasked to color Dora The Explorer.
Daw! Yeah, that’s a major bummer when things don’t go your way even though it’s as simple as a classroom contest. I would’ve thought outside the box and drew the back of the page instead. But hindsight is 20-20: maybe I would’ve colored Dora into Arthur since that was the show I grew up with when I was in first grade.

Oh, so the contest was recent? I thought that contest happened some time ago and you’re still waiting for that prize for a while now!

Yeah, a contest like that would be rather loose with the details. I assume it’s set entirely on what the contest runner likes or doesn’t like. Is the prize meant to be delivered at a set date or the contest runner didn’t specify?
At 12/27/23 02:59 AM, Tenebrare wrote: I have won a few. One was, when Enya.com (her official site at time, don't know if she has any nowadays) did fan art contest, i won the digital art category - with a mouse-drawing. Got some fancy autograph framed and other fan stuff.
That is one of the last times I took part an online art competition. As i did later learn that I won because I was hugely popular on forums then and the moderator and her music management team had liked me as part of community, not my work. The traditional art winner was my good online friend at time and we were like the leading force of the "fan art" sections on community (encouraging people to do creative things).
Somehow learning that killed the appeal of all sorts of competitions to me. More so, when social media arrived too - it became even more evident that most art competitions off and online really are about popularity of an artist, not the art. The whole social media functions on, who has more money for advertising, not who has cooler doodle.
... and I ... as charming person I am nowadays, I have 0 chance to win popularity contests.
Which is also reason you have never seen me even on NG take part of a single 'community project' as I feel there's too much judgement of artist always instead art. ok, I lied .. a bit. In case of NG is that I simply do not fit the site style wise. So i do not even look at local competitions.
Some times reality does hit you hard, even when you win. And I got smacked too harshly back then so it left life long issue.
That absolutely sucks! I’m sorry that you won based on popularity and not on effort!
At 12/26/23 11:48 PM, Skoops wrote: Losing to strong competition keeps me humble and driven, but some of the contests I entered this year (not all from NG) left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't feel much of a community spirit around most of them, and It's made me realize I need to be more careful about who I basically spend my free time laboring to provide free advertising to. I need to know who the judges are and scrutinize their relative skill and judgment more before throwing my hat in. If I can't trust their judgment or their tastes are demonstrably narrow to a point I know I don't stand a chance, I'm not going to bother anymore.
Now here’s something I’m genuinely curious about: what do you see in a good judge? From my perspective, a good judge tries to be as unbiased as possible and judges based on the criteria given for the contest. Nothing about the background of the artist, just the work that is given. However, I see a few snags when it comes to being a judge. How often can a judge keep their bias in check? What about stalemates? Does one need to flip a coin when that happens? Does the contest require multiple judges or can it be done with one judge? Can external events influence the final judgement on who wins or loses?
A lot of that stuff I have been thinking about lately. How does one be a good judge and how does one make an ironclad criteria that will make the participants feel less cheated? I’m just asking rhetorically here: no need to answer any of these questions.
So what was everyone’s experience with being part of an art contest if they have done so before? Have you guys managed to win anything? If so, what did you win? The contest could’ve been from here on Newgrounds, from some other site, a local event, you name it!
Here’s the thing with horror games in general… I hate to play them. They make me jumpy! And with those “monster variety pack”-type games, their unpredictability might make me even more jumpy! Watching people play them is still fun: some of the suspense but it’s not you behind the wheel!
Ooooh, this looks like fun!!
Why not try one of mine if you wish?
Fan Art is complicated for me since this account is meant for business and the original IP surrounding said business, so sharing fan art like say from Mario doesn’t feel right. I have participated in an Art Fight last year and posted some works based on other OCs, but that was more to join a month-long game than it being “fan” works: I also got permission from the original owner of the OC to share it here as well.
The only thing I’ve posted here that might be considered true “fan”-art is a Vinesauce version of a monster I’ve invented so many years ago.
Your sprite works are magnificent! Love the color choice in all of them!

I'm doing the color wheel challenge thingy on Twitter. I'll post it here when it's finished, but if you wanna make suggestions go follow me on the tweet boards.
Even if that trend is LONG dead, one of these days, I would love to do one! It’s probably the only Twitter art trend I actually like!
And a Merry Christmas to you too, Tom!
You know what? Maybe I should’ve been clearer here. The Grand Prize plush is just ONE of the prizes 1st place will win! The planned prize list is as follows:
1st Place
2nd Place
3rd Place
I don’t want to explain further on this developing contest, but what I will tell you is playing the OviVixen Master Demo itself will help your chances of winning drastically! That’s all I’m gonna put out there so far, have yourself a very Merry Christmas!
Also please participate in the POLL!

That’s the first time I ever heard of the word “portatil”! I know it’s a laptop, but hearing it be called that is new to me.

I used to be a part of a large fandom when I was 17/18, they reached out to me on Tumblr based on seeing my fanart and they wanted me to draw some crackship art of two canon characters. The actual commission went great and he liked my work, but this guy would dm me as if we were best friends outside of commissions, I didn't know him at all. He would get possessive if I didn't respond to him and beg for me to talk, he would send me 5 - 10 messages one by one before I even had the chance to respond and he'd blow my dm's up with non-commission bs, back then I had too much patience so I explained to him that I was playing a game, and he asked what was I playing. Anyway, he bought the game for no reason but to follow me around the map (It was a multiplayer online game, so even if he didn't add me he could find my username around the game) It became a nightmare, I remember hiding from him as he saw me in the main spawn area once and having to hide in the towns until he lost sight of my username.
When he couldn't find me he'd go offline and begin dming me on Tumblr. A few days later her 'opened' up about hismelf, telling me how he used to be roommates with a black couple and that he saw them as inferior because of their race. So I called him disgusting and a racist, in which I stopped all contact with him and refused to do any commissions for him again. Because he knew my commission info he found my name on facebook and started abusing me over facebook for rejecting him, and threatening me. Since then I haven't even bothered advertising my commissions, it's been a few years since that ordeal but there is some freaks out there.
Oooookay. Now that’s a story! I dunno exactly how to respond to that!
A bittersweet end to my first live art in years…

I think the thing that pisses me off the most about this guy is that they're always getting people to spend months on projects, just for him to get bored of it and drop the project, completely wasting everyone's time cause you can't "make it big" with something that doesn't get finished.
It’s never “once” or “when”, it’s always IF one makes it big no matter what’s being claimed otherwise! Even if the project is done, it’s never absolute whether or not the completed work will gain enough traction to even get something out of it.
Don’t believe me?(asking rhetorically) Look at Disney this year!
You’re absolutely right. Even as a client, I know “Ifs” don’t pay bills!
I’ve gotten so used to drawing on tablet, it feels almost alien to draw on paper once again! After sketching, I felt I’ve taken live drawing too much for granted. Man, it feels good!
Now I’m gonna try inking and coloring a little later. Something to do during the Christmas family gathering!

I was at least smart enough to not put my personal information out there.oof, heard alot of stories on instascam. paying more than agreed, insisting on paying by check etc.
You know what ticks me off? There are points that I have paid artists more than what’s agreed upon out of great respect for the artist! Now that scams like those Instagram ones are lurking about, the idea of doing that again now makes me feel slimy!
I always go to YouTube when it comes to knowing about any program. Even for something specific within said program, you can Google search the question, and Google will provide you a YouTube with the exact timeframe where the video mentions your problem. It’s not foolproof, but it helped me in more cases I would like to admit!
This is the most basic method I’ve ever experienced in regards to texturing in Blender:
There’s an extension I found called Fast64 which is designed to perfectly implement Blender files to some Nintendo 64 games. It’s texturing system is so simple to use, I’ve managed to color in a whole custom map in under an hour! However, its limitations are based on the limitations of what the N64 can render, so I can’t much beyond that compared to what can be done outside of the extension.
I don’t see anything wrong with your OC sharing a color palette with an already established character. Heck, remembering the game Skullgirls, every character alt is a direct reference to a character of another franchise: like one of Big Band’s alts resembling King Dedede.
Hope you’re planning to work on some real gems in 2024! 💎
