They tried something more radical with win 8 with the “Metro” ui but people hated it so hard that they went back.
also there is a enterprise concern they need to account for. They tried to have a “great reset” and stop support old ass programs but again, enterprises paid billions to develop there windows XP era app and they want it to work on windows 10.
Microsoft are desperate to get people onto 10 because it’s the first OS that you can pay for a license inside it. Before it was always a serial key you needed to buy from a CD or a visit a website. Win10 essentially has in app purchases inside it with licensing and they have there own App Store which they get a cut of all sales.
I honestly can’t remember the last meme I laughed at. Best I get these days is a sensible chuckle.
just want to know if there any dorf enthusiasts here?

Thanks! In the current build I think I know all the open bugs, I will make a post here when the new build is ready for testing!

Just a little bump, I was on the excellent @groundspatrol podcast talking about the late Ben Spurgin and his great work. https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/886516
i also talk about pimps quest 2 and its future in the second half of the episode if anyone is interested!
Honestly I think it’s not about the racism and more about the fact that this is like the Christian republican anti gay marriage advocate getting caught with male prostitutes.
Trudeau is so virtuous and PC that him getting caught like this is pretty funny.
another thing is that it’s a spectacle watching all the very left wing journalists absolutely destroy him, even though he is arguably one of the most left friendly politicians currently in office.
also him saying he can’t remember the exact number of times he’s dressed in black face is really funny. He even blacked up his hands and stuck a large sock down his trousers, that’s commitment to the bit.
Hey guys, I am out of the hospital now and now have the energy and time to open up the game for collaboration!
https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1444904
I am accepting literally anything people are kind enough to donate, as said in the post, there is no ego here, even the smallest contribution will get you in the credits.
I will be formalizing all the outlines of the game and start sharing what I have so far and go from there. I don't have a wealth of experience management collabs so please be patient and if you want I can always use a hand if your knowledgeable in this area!
No hard deadlines and no stress.
Hey guys, I announced Pimps Quest 2 last week and I want the community to get involved.
These positions are all un-paid as this game is not made for profit, I am not expecting expert quality, just want to work with people who want to help make an awesome game to tribute a fallen legend. There’s no ego here, even the smallest amount of contributes will get you into the credits!
I am accepting anything from the community, however these are roles I need filled;
Voice actresses:
Any voices are welcome! Especially feminine sounding voices to voice the women. No strict guidelines apart from being English speaking and having a semi decent mic. I will share the story and characters at a later date, just know that I will need both males and females.
Musicians:
I want to source all the music for the game from Newgrounds! I am looking for “Funky” music that fits a Pimp, also old school hip hop beats are welcome. If you think you have music that will be a good fit hit me up! (Bonus points if then song is already on the Audio Portal).
Beta testers:
Love bug chasing?(ew that came out wrong) well then you can help by playing early builds of the game I’ve already put up a tech demo of the engine here and you’re welcome to try it out and leave any feedback of problems you may have found.
Again, this game is not for profit and I am treating it like an open source project, so if you have any other skills you’d like to donate, like art, puzzle design, game design, writing or even programming, feel free to reach out to me.
I am looking into open source licences that will respect the artist rights whiles keeping the software 100% open. If you have experience with this then please reachout to me.
This is my first time working on such an open game so please be patient with me as I sort this out, no hard deadlines and no stress.

After 17 years Pimps Quest is finally getting a sequel!
For those of you unaware, Pimps Quest was one of the quintessential OG Newgrounds flash games made in 2002 by its creator Ben Spurgin. You can still play the original here
Sadly Ben passed away in late 2009 when he relapsed and died of a heron overdose. He is forever immortalized on Newgrounds with his own page dedicated to him and his work. https://www.newgrounds.com/collection/stickslayer
Ben was working on a Pimps Quest 2 however it never got finished, he was even working on a Pimps Quest Online game which had a closed beta but the only evidence of it now is a NG bbs posts. From the mid 2000’s
About the game:
Pimps Quest 2 is not a direct sequel, instead it set 17 years after the events of the original Pimps Quest. The story is outlined and script is mostly written and currently I am in the phase of tying them together through puzzles/events.
With this announcement I have released a small tech demo to show that this game announcement has legs. I have made a “vertical slice” of gameplay to demo everything I want to do with a full Pimps Quest game. Including puzzle solving, NPC dialog, cutscenes, shootouts, Newgrounds api integration and much more. Oh and the whole thing works on mobile.
This game was originally going to be a remake of the original however there was too many things I wanted to change/fix so I decided to stick my flag in the ground and continue the adventures of Hooch Pandersnatch. The tech demo is styled off the original (an artifact of it originally being a remake) but with lots of new features, my goal is to make it feel like the original but a bit smoother, a bit deeper and most importantly. Fun.
I am treating this game like a “first party” Newgrounds game, this means it will be sitelocked to NG, fully integrated with Newgrounds.io api including medals and maybe scoreboards and using music solely sourced from the Audio portal.
This game is not for profit, it will be put up for free with no ads, no in game monetization and no fundraising (Tom Fulp also said he can disable ads on the final product page).
I will open source a version of the game engine (Phaser 3 with many helper functions for multi room puzzle/point n’ click games) in the future.
All the programming and art has been done by me, it’s programmed in ES6 JS using the Phaser 3 engine, the art has been made using SVG drawing tools (Sketch, Figma) to emulate the original games style. I wanted to build this on Wick in time for the Wick game jam but I found it too difficult and slow (I have lots of experience with Phaser CE and 3). I may still use Wick to make cutscenes when it allows me to export MP4 movies.
You like what I am doing? Feel free to leave a comment on this post!
The game currently doesn’t have a release date, my only personal goal for this game is to get it on the front page like the original.
The game has many unfinished sections due to sickness in my family (I am hooked up to an IV in a Chinese hospital as I write this post) and was hoping to have more fleshed our mechanics and voice acting, however the more time I spend on the tech demo the less time I have for the full release sequel.
I remember the original Pimp's Quest, and I remember having a nice little chuckle at the jokes. At the time, it was great. This was back when making games like this was new territory. The biggest reason a game like that, which would never hold up to the standards of the cheapest games today, was lauded so much is because of where and how it was made.
If you want to do a tribute, get some other people involved and make it clear that it's not an attention grab for you. I'm betting there are plenty of people who would be willing to put in a little time and effort to help make a tribute game for this guy without wanting credit if that's really what this is about. Without something like this, this is just straight disrespectful.
I understand where your coming from.
I ran this through Tom and a select few NG people and no one has given me any indication that this is a bad idea. Again I have stated that this is meant to be a tribute, I loved Pimps Quest and myself (and others) have always wanted to PimpsQuest 2.
its meant to be a tribute to Ben and the entire old school NG community. Again I plan to make 0 money off this, I have not linked to anything offsite and Tom will even pull ads off the final product page.
This is how I wanted to Tribute Ben and his honesty amazing history on and off this site. I have a post already written asking for help, here it is
“Want to get involved? I have made a thread over in collaboration for anyone who wants to help, as I said this is a NG project, so any Newgrounders who want help with Audio, voice acting, art, game design or even just shoot off ideas I would love to talk to you. “
I removed ot it last minute as I am in hospital and don’t have time to set up a thread in collab and start responding to people. Perhaps that was foolish, I posted the game early because I wanted a moral boost since I am away from my wife and kids.
sorry is this is rambling, I have an IV filling me with something I can’t read and posting this on my phone.
Thank NG you for your feedback however, I do know some people will share your opinion and naturally since it’s 2019 if enough people get angry I will pull the plug. I just wanted to do something nice.

Well since you guys are the early birds I can offer you an early bird special.
Here is a rough tech demo of the game, the password is hooch

I was going to polish it more and voice act it before the big reveal but one of my kids have gotten sick so I don't know when I can launch it publically so I decided to reward you guys for finding it.
Just some things, the last segment is not finished and this is not an example of the finished game. I was originally making a re-make of Pimp's Quest 1 but I wanted to change so much that I decided to quickly finish what I have to demo the tech and move onto making Pimps Quest 2. The new game will use the same engine but the setting will be totally different (17 years different) and naturally have lots more screens, quests and most importantly, hoe's.
Somethings that are missing that I wanted to add are;
I will make a public launch of this tech demo in the near future but need a little more time. Feel free to give me any feedback, if you find some good bugs I can add you as a beta tester in the credits.
Oh and this works on mobile so please try it out on your phone/tablet and let me know how it goes!
RIP BEN

Hahaha I just found this thread! I guess the cats out of the bag!
Yes I am making a sequel set 17 years after the events of Pimps Quest 1. I have a tech demo that’s almost ready to drop along with an official announcement.
I have already shown it to TomFulp and he liked it, we will also disable ads on the final product page in respect to the original creator Ben Spurgin as the project is 100% nonprofit.
Phaser is the best engine if you want to make pure html5 games (IMO)
I liked the concept, as a mobile game developer I hate it because they got to use a very special API for google maps that now thanks to the way corporations work only a very select few company can use.
keep getting clients who want to make a Pokémon go style game but can’t really because that API is only for the 1% of game devs to make 80% of all the profit on the mobile market
Urgh, why does Hollywood have to keep pumping out sequels (I mean I know why but still I hate it). It should also be mentioned that the two siblings who made the Matrix (the wakinskis or something ) haven’t made any decent films since the original matrix.
Maybe 4 will be a prequel? However that would just end up as action schlock
Just wondering when/if this is coming to the ng.io, been in the api tools but "coming soon" for a long time.
Been looking at some old forum posts and t3h 4m0un7 0v l33t sp34k m3ks t3h si73 l00k l4m3rz!!1
i love the dated stuff because I am boomer and like to go back in the past.

One of my weaknesses is polishing after the fact. As in I make some game but its really rough around the edges and I really have problems motivating myself to go and fix it later, so I made polish apart of my development "Polish as you go" so I don't have a huge polish task at the end.

If not, what do you like about building games in this medium over others?
I work with Unity for a few projects including porting my game Reach for the Star https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/731340 (Unity port is not being worked on at the moment)
and I ported a more serious desktop game https://www.reddit.com/r/Unity3D/comments/611rc9/converted_my_game_from_html5_to_unity_wip/ to unity
However, I still remain an avid HTML5 developer for many reasons.
I know Unity can port to WebGL however this is very un optimal for mobile since it doesn't work as well as it should. https://forum.unity.com/threads/state-of-unity-webgl-on-mobile.624685/
Unity is a great tool and if your good at it I say use it! However I am staying with HTML5 unless I want to make a game for PC and requires real GPU power.

I personally am building a point and click game in Phaser3. Very good engine with lots of tutorials and examples.
Hey guys, I have been building mobile web games since 2013 and recently rediscovered Newgrounds and really like the new newgrounds.io api but noticed that the amount of new mobile friendly games is low compared to other portals. To help remedy this I wanted to offer any help if game devs have questions about developing games for mobile/touch screens!
My expertise lies in JavaScript (duh) and I mainly use Phaser (CE and 3), three.js, Babylonjs, iio.js and all the other tools required to make graphics and animations. Feel free to ask anything and I’ll try to answer best I can.
have a look at the game engine Phaser 3. Its html5 and has a lot of maturity and not super difficult (lots of tutorials online)
