Drawings that inspire you to make music. Posted November 3rd, 2023 in Audio

So you see something cool and now you had a music playing in your head or smth. Happens sometimes, but I haven't made any music out of anything I've seen TBH.

Use this thread if you have any example, post the pic and the music that goes with it.

I’ve basically lost most interest in Sonic once Heroes came about and haven’t gained any further interest in it since. Why? Because I actually got those games for that obscure noisy console, the Dreamcast. Arguably, they are the best versions you can play above any future port: especially in regards to DX.
If Sonic Frontier was like an Adventure 3 rather than a “Sega, hire this man!” game, that probably would’ve been the first Sonic game I bought in over a decade! Despite these games being ultimately linear, there is just enough openness in these stages that makes you feel like you’re doing more than just following a trial. And once you’re done with a few levels, both Adventure games have the best “break-time” sub-game that Sonic Team refuses to replicate after all these years. It’s amazing how many good concepts that development company decides to ditch every time they start making a new game!

Yes, I kinda miss SA1&2, especially the Dreamcast version. Maybe one day, I’ll try to find an emulation of those games and play them again.

They basically both have the chao garden so I think that's what you're missing from new sonic games.

This game is based on this concept BTW maybe you can give it a try?

The last new release I bought was Doom Eternal back in 2020. Now it's just whatever runs on this shitty laptop.

There is no prize, this is for fun and for training. So feel free to take this as an opportunity for you to exercise you music skills.

Here is some titles for the songs you could use.

The code of nature.
It had to be done.
Sweet revenge.
Sheer Will.
Cold dead hands.
Hollywood's Nightmare.
Professional Brawler.
Beer Pong.
The solution.
Dissolving the proof.
Cruel Fate.
Blessing from the slums.
Dark Sacrament.
Joy ride to hell.
Fear no more.
Angel's lullaby.
Calculating your future.
Lover's note.
Heart to heart.
Sharp wisdom.
Calculated Crime.
Sinner's ambition.
Nothing to care for.
Last call to heaven.
Beauty of a mistake.
Fear me more.
Way to go.
Where's Angela?
Conclusions.
End of the chapter.
Final page.
Less to know.
Smile to me.
Notorious loser.
Freak lose it.
Mind your business.
Professionals do not cry.
Fought like a dragon.
Fight the devil.
A cause for the weak.
Trouble in the matrix.
Thou shall know the price.

Hope to hear you songs very soon!

Have fun!

I guess my song would go well for this challenge since it's an epic battle music. Hope you like it.

I haven't played many experimental tower defense games and I have to know if certain elements of genres feel out of place when genre mashing certain ideas together for you guys, anything that just didn't work game formula wise.

It's actually possible. Instead of shoving both genres together, you can make the platformer part of the game the part where you bring turrets from the main tower into place and then you have to go back into the tower. Also you'd be able to collect coins on your way. I think it would work better than whatever you're trying to do.

Just an idea that came in was a fangame where you play as Mario and you have to protect the castle, maybe it's Peach's castle, so you have to play classic levels like 1-1 in reverse to plant defences and then you'd have to replay the full thing back so Mario gets back to the castle. Honestly my idea is just better.

But then I also come across a few submissions with the A rating where the only thing "adult" about it is that there's a naked person with their bits showing, but the piece is otherwise no more sexual than a pinup. Did Newgrounds get stricter about nudity since the last time I had an account on this place?
Visible genitals must be A-rated. 'Twas always thus, and always thus will be.

Depends. The adult rating only ever happens whilst selecting "lots of" in the nudity field. So if it was "some" it would be mature instead. Atleast that tells me there are cases where there is visible genitalia on a pic with a rating of M instead of A. Tho it's never going to be E or T.

I don't get what's so cringeworthy about RPG Maker or SquareSoft's games. Earthbound is an excellent RPG Maker trilogy that's been so underrated.
The problem with this engine is that you're limited in creativity like the only thing it ever does are walking sims and RPGs.

I said RPG Maker games, not RPGs in general dude. Games made on RPG Maker are mostly cringe, point.

Also some of the FFs I played like Final Fantasy 7 are fine meanwhile I never played Earthbound, never will, I have no opinion on it. RPG Maker didn't even bloody exist back when they were made.
Oh, yes it did, it came from Japan in 80's or 90's and was the engine for many console RPGs worldwide. You can call it the Flash Player of Nintendo JRPGs. I think FF7 was when JRPGs started not using it as an engine due to the 3D graphics of the N64, since RPG Maker is all 2D graphics, backgrounds, characters along with everything else. The gameboy still used it, however.

iu_972335_11179587.jpg

No they weren't, the oldest game ever made in RPG Maker was the prototype for Corpse Party, still a game for PC.

Do you unironically honestly think game engines worked on a weak console like the SNES? Nope. Same for the gameboy, all games made for the gameboy weren't made via an engine. Pokemon Red and Blue was made entirely in assembly code which's why it's a buggy piece of shit.

The modern RPG Maker can't barely even port outside its home OS Windows. Its support has only extended to HTML5 and MacOS with MV. Please just stop spewing bollocks for a second buddy.

Anyways to answer the question, I think Ao Oni is great cos it uses the engine optimally for a basic gameplay loop that works. It's also not goofy like many other games made on this.
I think the whole point of engines like RPG Maker is to make the silly meme game ideas you have without worrying about whether it's "marketable" enough to justify the cost and time sink of using an industry-standard engine like Unreal and hiring other artists, musicians and game devs. That's perhaps why the games tend to come out as "cringe." It's not for people who have serious ambitions of becoming a game developer (though it may be a good beginner software for someone trying to decide whether they enjoy game dev and think it is worth pursuing), just a slightly healthier way to spend your screen time than just playing JRPGs for hours. Same for Game Guru, which is just a level editor for standard FPS games.

That said, the engine is getting way too complicated (and expensive) for casual game making now. If you must have the Unity-esque features in the upcoming RPG Maker Unite, or code in elaborate workarounds to the limitations of current RPG Makers, you might as well as move on to the engines used in the industry, like Unity and Unreal, or maybe Godot if you like the extra challenge or want an engine that is TRULY free. Save your money and just get RPG Maker 2003 for like 5 bucks at most in the likely event that you only make something in it to pass the time on especially boring weekends. And of course, try to find a way to avoid random enemy encounters in your game once you get comfortable with the engine, it's like the one thing that keeps me from enjoying and finishing otherwise-amazing JRPG classics like Final Fantasy VI (6).

Oh yeah I can definitely see it like Ao Oni is kinda supposed to not be taken too seriously it's why it's so great. I'm literally not kidding here, I'm working on a meme shitpost using RPG Paper Maker, basically a game engine not unlike RPG Maker because it's simply quicker and easier.

I'd argue RPG Maker is kinda just dated. RPG Paper Maker basically took the concept of RPG Maker and made it into a 3D engine. The games made from it look like Octopath Traveler funnily enough. Also best of all it's free if you aren't selling the games which I don't plan to anyways.

Agreed, RPG Maker has always been an overpriced mid game engine kinda like Apple's shit is overpriced. If working in a 3D environment isn't someone's thing there's also WolfRPG that's free.

I did this by cutting the video into 3 frame chunks, cutting off the second and third and replacing them with the first. Basically, every three frames isn't 3 frames but one frame repeated thrice. Pico meets Family Guy

Pico decided to go live elsewhere after he shot up another school and is wanted in 9 states.

What better place to live than Quahog, Rhode Island, so that's where he went to. When he finished setting up he knocked at the door of 1 of his neighbours. Then the neighbour answered, casually.

"Holy crap Lois, it's Pico from the hit game Friday Night Funkin's, also I heard about him on the news!"

Pico thought it maybe wasn't a good idea to actually let himself be known, he should've laid a low profile. Anyways Peter doesn't care and invites him for dinner.

"So, Petey who're you bringing home today."

"Oh well it's Pico. A cool kid who rebels against society. This reminds me of the time I joined a protest, it was a riot!"

*Cue flashback*

"Ooh, those guys I don't remember their names I think they were the boogaloos, or the antifas, or the black bloc, or the proud boys I don't know, but they were great and very cool. Fuck the cops, they're all bastards, they are worse than the time I accidentally joined a rap battle with some kid and lost."

*Cue flashback*

"And so what's up with you, kid?"

"I'm trying to find shelter away from the spies of the CIA."

"Away from the prying eyes don'tcha?" Added Stewie.

"Oh I almost forgot, I had a bowling match planned with my friends, I got to go."

Then Lois said "Ok, bye Petey."

"I got to go too." Said Pico and so he left the house, never to be seen again.

The end.

That said, its important to check whether the critique is wanted or not (some people outright state not looking for it), and to keep things focused on what can be improved, and not "this is garbage, I hate it". To look at it in another way, why would you waste time critiquing someone who doesn't want it, or who will outright ignore it? Wouldn't the time be better spent critiquing someone open to critique?

You're right it's a good thing you put into perspective. Too often I see professional artists will just give you tips on how to draw the next Mona Lisa, what if I don't want to tho? Like you're cute and all, but I'm sure most ppl are into art as hobbyists and these ppl would want to draw y'knoe something that looks cool or crazy, something with style or just anime (cos it's a fad).

Guys would low-key be far more helpful if they tried to give directions on how to improve someone's drawings w/o going overboard about it.
