Oh wait hold on everyone, I think I have an idea to solve the problem with this scouting rule!
This would probably take some time to make, but insted of allowing only scouted users to join, how about some set amount of followers / uploaded drawings / time since first joining / all of those being what permits participation?
I mean, if the hosts want people who have a few drawings uploaded, and some other people vouching that said drawings are at least somewhat decent, then that's probably gonna be the case for someone with, let's say, 20 follows and 30 uploaded art projects. And it seems like a simple task to make a program that checks that stuff automaticly!

We're not even sure... JUST KIDDING !!! THE RULES !!! THE RULES ARE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR !!!!!
You can read all the rules for the Secret Santa via the registration page, but I'd like to share a few cliff notes of what we changed for this year.
BIG CHANGES:
Other than these minor changes (and the whole automated system implemented by @PsychoGoldfish last year) we are on a fast track to having this as optimized as possible.
Note: If you aren't scouted, but have a bunch of art on the art portal, throw up some links and maybe you'll catch someone's attention! (If you are already scouted, please make sure anything you scout adheres to NG guidelines!)

What is expected of me and how can I help ?
If you would like to participate:
- Be patient after signing up
- Be respectful to whomever you're drawing for by not ruining the surprise or letting them know you're drawing for them
- Relay all questions to event helpers, NOT the person you are assigned to
- Read the rules over twice if you have any questions
- End of day, Nov. 26th (11:59pm EST) is when everyone must have their registration/profile completed
- If all goes according to plan, Secret Santas will be assigned on Dec. 1st
- You have until the end of Christmas Eve, Dec. 24th (11:59pm EST) to submit your completed drawing

Being scouted is a status on newgrounds, and not based on any kind of quantity. You're either scouted or unscouted.
And you can absolutely use the same OC in a row :^)

Do you see a button at the bottom of the register page, or a message saying you must be scouted?
If you see the button, you are scouted, if not... you are not.

Just wanting to put a reminder out there:
If you were just recently scouted, make sure you aren't just scouting anyone who asks in this thread. We'll be scrutinizing things pretty closely, and if we find that someone is scouting people who don't meet the art portal standards, just to let them into this event, you will lose your ability to scout, and possibly your scout status (which will remove you from this event).
If you don't know what any of this means, you should probably just not scout anyone until you've gotten familiar with our art community.
Oh well, that goes for not posting anything a whole year. Idk may someone view my art and tell me if it is scout worthy? I dont want a pity scout or anything but now that I think about it I need to improve

Normally we frown on asking to be scouted, but I think we can stretch that rule just a bit in the spirit of the season. But let's just limit it to a single post of art links and not be obnoxious or we will have to enforce that rule.
As someone who participated in the last three Secret Santa events, i wanna have a fourth go at it cuz why not? its so much fun! ;D
unfortunately, like mostly everybody else around here, i'm not scouted. :(( And while i understand that the new Scouted rule for the event is for more legitimacy and such, it made me realize that being unscouted sucks a tad tbh. (friendly reminder that i didn't mind being unscouted until today.) so i'm putting some links to my artworks in here for you to enjoy. and in the event that i can't make it in time for the registration deadline, i'll simply wish the best of luck to those of you who actually got to register for the event. :)

Man, I'd love to join this year but I'm worried I probably won't be able to finish in time given how much of a terrible procrastinator I am. Not to mention that I still have some unfinished art business outside of NG (which is long overdue), so I'll probably have to sit this one out unfortunately.
I feel like I was scouted at one point in the past year but not 100% sure, especially since I was pretty inactive these past few months. Is there any way for me to figure that out?

quick question about the event , are we allowed to submit another character for the event as like an alternative option to choose from in the event that someone doesnt like drawing a certain character so they can just choose the other option? mainly asking because i have an ungodly amount of ocs and just choosing one would probably be really difficult lol
either way im pretty interested in participating because im generally speaking pretty new compared to a lot of the other people here + ive never really participated in a site wide event like this + iwould like to draw some cool characters and make people happy i think

You can definitely submit more than one character, but be clear that your gifter only has to draw one if they want.
