Just work at whatever resolution is comfortable for you. It shouldn't really matter, unless you have a specific reason it needs to be high res. Like if it is going to be zoomed in, or printed, or to be used in a professional capacity, then it should be higher resolution.

You usually don't need to downscale your images when uploading them. The service you are posting to will downscale and compress the image automatically.
