For me, it's my short comic called "Blue Oshi"

I once again failed at a long term comic project and wanted to do something completely different

I used the same OCs for MikoMooMaa (one of my oc universes) but put them in different designs and gave them completely different backstories while still keeping most of their personality the same, an AU essentially

It. Sucks.

Tomorrow is gonna be it's 1 year anniversary so I reread it and...it's so bad, I worked MONTHS on this and it's so fucking bad.

The panels, the lazy work on the backgrounds, the goddamn story that was meant to be much longer but due to me getting bored I cut it short leading to a bunch of things being set up but never actually executed...

After it ended I tried huffing copium, telling myself "Oh it's not that bad, I made much worse comics before it" but that doesn't really change how cringy it still is

Part of me wants to remake it someday...BUT THE MAIN COMIC HASN'T EVEN BEEN FULLY FIGURED OUT YET??? WHY DID I CREATE A COMIC ABOUT AN AU AND FINISH THAT ONE INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING FOR THE CANON VERSION OF THE CHARACTERS??????

Anyhow,

What about you? Got anything that you spend months, maybe even years on and now wish you hadn't done so?

None. Even with the mountain load of crap that I despise, I learned something from all of them. There are a lot of old art and comics that I would love to revisit and take a crack at now that I built up more experience and skill. Learning from your past failures is never a waste of time. Gotta make some trash before you start getting good.

It sounds like you found the comic that worked better for you! Why not declare that one canon and say that the old one is just an early attempt you made while finding the right idea?

As for my response:

Frankly, none of my unfinished or childish ideas can really compare to the times I came up with something that was just flat out offensive. A lot of ideas I had in my head, some of them thankfully not preserved, that I came up with when I was still trying to figure out the world, history, current-day topics I’d never been aware of before, and my own mind.

I won’t go into the details: Some of the stuff I did on the platforms I was on before NG earned me other people’s justified hatred, and I’m paranoid about the possibility that they’ll find me again and refuse to recognize that I feel awful about what I did.

Oh the comic I'm working on right now is completely separate from MikoMooMaa

MikoMooMaa has always been a struggle to figure out where I wanna head with it

Do I wanna make it more comedic? More story focused? A slice of life? A drama? I hope to finally figure everything out by 2025

None.

Even with my failed attempt to make a game, I still earn the right to accept my failure as an experience.

Other people here have pretty much said the same thing as I am about to say: not really. My old artwork, lots of which I don't really like now, I can still say I learned at least a little something after finishing each piece.

I happen to regret leaving a comic project that was in the works. The project was basically "what if Marilyn Manson was a captain in a Union Cavalry regiment". The plotline is supposed to start from the Battle of Gettysburg to the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln/Arrest of John Wilkes-Booth.

So, the "pilot" of the comic series was, obviously, the Battle of Gettysburg. I published the first part of the "pilot", in which Captain Manson and his cavalry prep up to moving to Gettysburg to help General Meade in battle. I worked on the second part for a bit before I lost motivation. I still love Marilyn Manson and the American Civil War as both interests, but I wish I had more motivation to finish up the series.

Another not-so-fun fact: I even received hate messages from trolls about how Marilyn Manson was an awful choice for a Union Cavalry Captain, and they accused me of being a "white savior".

A lot of them I regret uploading (especially all my older ones) but it is cool to look back and barf at how incredibly awful you used to be.

I don't regret my works, but I have some things I didn't like to share at all.

Sometime ago, I made an nsfw art of Ribbon (the fairy from Kirby 64). I made my best effort to make her look adult while maintaining her cute design, but after the artwork was done, I felt like I failed. That art used to be in the Art Portal, but I took it down myself to avoid any possible flag in the future (I didn't want to risk anything on that). It is still published in DA however (because DA, duh).

I also have many books I wrote in Wattpad during my puberty. I don't hate 'em, and in fact, I return to them from time to time, just so I can laugh at myself about how bad I was at writting in that time (not only writting stories, but also with word composition, I sucked a lot on that)

1. My 2020 drawings.

Man, they all look horrible. Idk what was into me back then.

2. To a little context first:

I wanted for a Spooktacular event do some drawings of Pico and others, a la Treehouse of Horror type of deal. But time was short, and i've never found the actual plot i wanted to make. So, yeah.

I don't hate it, but i'm sad i've never reached my original idea.

3. The Sweet Sixteen.

Oh fucking Gaia, The Sweet Sixteen.

This one feels the worst, of many factors.

One: I wanted to be part of it, but took me ages to find a "Good plot", and when i found it, it took me literal days to finish some of the pages. Heck, even the plot kinda sucked ass!

The weirdest part i've entered the contest with the mind in the ground. I wasn't gonna win nothing. And welp, i was right. But part of me felt like just smashing my head to the desk.

The worst part? I made in because i wanted to show more of my characters in a "Pilot episode" sort of a way, but i think i've fucked up a lot. The only good thing i've did there was finally find the perfect colors for the gang, one of the Bot Buster and stuff. But i felt like an huge ass idiot.

The even worst part? I keep convincing myself "It was kinda fun, heck, i can fix the plot and make something good yadah yadah~" BUT THE IMPROVED VERSIÓN ISN'T WORKING.

No joke, it's like, when i try to write some episode script or something like that i got NOTHING. And idk what to do man! Since many years i've never got an actual script!

Yeah. Harsh self pain in matter of minutes. Man, i don't know how i'll make my long dream come true if i don't even know what to write...

I'm regretting to do like all of my projects...

I'm not satisfied with wrighting, I'm not satisfied with art... I'm not satisfied with how slow I'm doing all of that shit...

But on the other hand I'm really want to make them and anxiety of dying in like 20+ different ways is slapping me in the face and saying "dude! Just do it! Who gives a fuck if your projects are bad?"

Response to Are there any projects you REGRET making? 2023-12-30 23:45:23

My regrets are mostly partial or mixed. Like, yeah everyone will say they don't regret participating in contests or something like that because they learn something or have something to show for it, but I usually regret it a little bit because I could have learned something more valuable and made something better if I didn't spend my time trying to win prizes or something stupid like that.

Response to Are there any projects you REGRET making? 2023-12-31 01:42:36

None, if there's something I feel is too hard or ambitious, I put it on the back burner, or scrap it.

Zero regrets

If you’re feeling like you’re too slow at these things, maybe you could use some practice runs. This month I finally pushed myself to make daily sketches, and I’ve become a big proponent of it. It made me a lot faster at completing the line work for my actual artworks too, which is the part where I used to agonize about details the most.

I haven’t tried it yet with writing, but I assume it’s also applicable. Daily scenes or one-shots.

It sounds like you’re really frustrated with yourself right now.

As we improve at art, our sense for art details improves as well. We begin to notice mistakes in our older work that we didn’t before. That’s all it is.

2. To a little context first:

Never too late. As I often say: “You fool, it’s always Halloween!” In all seriousness, though, there’s a subset of the NG population (myself included) that’s happy to see some spooky/horror stuff regardless of the time of year. There’s a Horror Artist Thread somewhere in this forum, as well as the Horrorverse Fan Club in Clubs and Crews! You could get some ideas from them!

3. The Sweet Sixteen.
Oh fucking Gaia, The Sweet Sixteen.

Overall it sounds like you tried to do a challenge that was way bigger than your actual or perceived capabilities.

This one feels the worst, of many factors.

For one, you may have expected that you’d at least have been a good contender/have a finished product you liked, which you didn’t end up having. For another factor, and this is a shot in the dark considering I only have one data point you’ve mentioned, you might also have a strong emotional reaction to rejection. Take a moment to remember your past experiences and see if that’s true across the board or if it was just frustration about not feeling like you got anywhere.

That’s at least some progress! Remember that even successful creators end up redoing the same idea many times to perfect it.

It may be time to seek outside help for writing. Not to have it all written for you, of course, just to get advice on where to start from when coming up with a plot. I can give you some suggestions to start with:

  1. What are your characters’ motivations? What are their deep fears, attachments, or goals? And what do they have yet to find out about themselves?
  2. What media do you like? What things do those franchises do well? Are there plot points you really like that you can borrow for yours? (There’s no shame in it - I found out yesterday that even the plot of the Lego Bionicle show referenced several other franchises in various parts, lol.)
  3. What existing media has a premise similar to yours? Can you take a look at it? What do you like and dislike about them? What concepts or plot points do you wish they explored more?
  4. Are there smaller stories you can tell in your universe? Maybe writing those out can help you get into the groove better for something bigger.

In terms of getting the good feeling back, I do have a support group thread for artists who are losing motivation, though I’m not sure if comics have been discussed yet. I’m also always happy to help people brainstorm on their projects, so if you want, shoot me a message and we can talk!

No. I don't want to live life with regrets. So if I'm going to make something, it'll be something I like. Otherwise, why would I even make it? Of course, you may not like your old work because it reflects different values or experience you have (which shows growth), but the passion within is still visible, and that's timeless. Of course, publishing it is a different story. I don't tend to do so unless I'm sufficiently happy with it, but unpublished works are allowed to be safe and experimental without judgement behind closed doors. If I regretted, or worried about regretting my works, I don't think I'd ever get anything completed. Fuck all that noise, I'll just create what I want.

I made a game called Tonic Solace, my only regret was rushing to finish it. I was having so much fun making it and then I started crunching to meet a stupid deadline I set for myself ( a 3 month dev cycle ). I missed the deadline and crunched for another month then released it. After releasing it, I felt so embarrassed by my shoddy work, I worked on improving it for another 6 months until I was tired of it and re-released it.

I'm still not happy with it and don't plan on touching it again.

This NSFW comedy comic called "Something Kinky This Way Comes!!!" I made it back in 2018-2019 or so, it was about these two girls who worked as escorts in the only Monster x Human escort agency in town, they would always get in dumb stuff, although, most of the jokes didn't land or I dragged them for too long, and I had a poor understanding of basic anatomy, so you had noodle limbed individuals in erotic situations looking very awful. So what I am saying is... It didn't work nor as a comedy nor as a NSFW piece.

In all honesty I just drew it cuz back in 2018 I dropped out of my first career and the environment in my house was tense, my parents were very disappointed in me, I was a complete Neet, playing CS:GO and drawing all day, that comic was my distraction. Luckily, nowadays my situation is different, I'm a semester away from graduatin and I got a job offer recently so I am very happy, and in all honesty, I have been thinking on revisiting those two ladies again, maybe sometime soon.

Yeah,, it looks like that. Although lately i haven't going to draw something. Like, a resting. Idk, but you might got a point.

As we improve at art, our sense for art details improves as well. We begin to notice mistakes in our older work that we didn’t before. That’s all it is.

Yeah, that's right, with those ones, aren't proud, but also make me feel happy of my progress. Also, yeah, i meant 2021, but still lmao-

Heh, yeah, that might work! Heck, believe it or not, i actually i've working in a less ambitious horror/comedy proyect with other OCs of mine, so yeah. That might work.

However, there's a little something:

I'm really not that much into horror. Sure, every once in a while, but never that down.

And don't really wan't to turn my entire account into a spoopy stuff, that's why i save it for October to November 2. But yeah, maybe those clubs might work. Idk.

Well, to be honest, i never won an contest, and whelp. I always had in mind the idea "Just draw because you like it", but, idk. So things like contest really never made me feel off. Except that time.

Look, i don't actually hate the Sweet Sixteen comic i made. But one part of me makes me sad. Maybe because it didn't really looked finished. It's complicated.
