Tired of going from commission to commission - Suggestions of indie game companies

The title is pretty self-explanatory.

I want to build a career in the games industry as 2d artist (any field) but I have to start somewhere and commissions aren't helping me much.

Do you know of any indie companies that are hiring or even that are not, but give reviews on portfolios?

I know some companies but I can't lie that I know that many from outside my country.

Thanks for the reply!

Bumping this thread in the unlikely event that someone who is currently working in the industry and is on newgrounds sees it.

Unfortunately, breaking into the industry can be very difficult regardless of whether you're a programmer, artist, musician or another role. I'm not in the industry, so I don't know what the criteria used to hire artists and designers for studios (even indie ones) are, if not based on portfolios.

I think starting off with making games (or whatever) with just yourself would be a better practice.

If you want to join in a already existing entity, they would probably expect a lot from you.
