I feel like trying out Scratch 2023-06-27 10:05:35

The reason I am posting in the Game Development forum is because Scratch is a game making engine. And the reason why I put reasons is to clarify the topic of the forum subject. Now that's out of the way, I'm thinking about starting out simple when it comes to game development. The game engine I will try is Scratch. I know that Scratch is made for the little ones who would like to know how to code in a certain way, but I feel like that will be a good start for those who have no experience on how to code. I also feel that I am not cut out for Flash and HTML5 yet, but with learning, I can grasp the knowledge of AS and HTML5. To make a long forum post short, Is Scratch good for beginners?

Scratch should be allright, maybe also look at GDevelop and see which one looks like a better fit for you because my impression is that GDevelop looked a little more capable. If you're willing to pay money, GameMaker and Construct would also be options. I wrote this TL DR on getting started in gamedev which should still be pretty much accurate, but long story short you could also consider just learning some programming first and then starting off with a more capable engine like Godot 3.x or Unity. Depends on your personality and whether you would want to learn some programming first vs get started making games sooner, either way is ok.

I'd say Scratch is a good start if you have absolutely no experience. If you have a bit of experience I'd say GDevelop is a better place to make games.

Yeah, Scratch would be good for beginners.

Scratch is how I got my start! You’ve also got some nice fan made features and export options nowadays.

Scratch is great for learning coding logic that can me translated into any language. Personally I went from Scratch and python at the same time (mostly scratch) to Godot and it worked for me as I knew how to code, I just needed to know the commands of the language.

I use Scratch to make games and animations. It's not the best engine if you want to make really complex games. But it's a good start.

Scratch is great for beginners and really easy to learn but use Turbowarp to make projects and everything. It's scratch but modded to work alot better and extra features (AND DARK MODE).

https://turbowarp.org/editor

Do NOT though create an account on scratch. As a platform scratch is horrible. Worse moderation than Roblox and the userbase is dumber than fortnite kids literally look at this image. blud doesn't know what crediting someone is..iu_1090411_10890636.png

also is basically ENCOURAGED to steal other people's projects and code on scratch. If the project is published onto the scratch platform anyone can just go into the editor and press file save and reupload it without any credit. You also can't turn off remixing or for anyone to even SEE the code.
