Newgrounds Battle of the Bands!
Overview: Musicians and Singers team up to form bands which will compete against each other, with the winner decided by both a panel of judges and the people of Newgrounds. The songs of each band will be scored on originality, production quality, virtuosity, and the quality and balance of the mix (e.g. how well the instruments in the song groove with each other and how they sit in the mix).
Stage 1 The Planning Stage:
During this initial stage, participants will form bands and decide whom they’d like to collaborate with. They’ll then work on a band name and select their band leader who will have the task of arranging and publishing their song. Bands may also decide on a genre for their song during this stage. Ideally it’ll be limited to rock, metal, and blues. Since having multiple genres may make judging harder since bias towards one genre over another may occur.
Stage 2 Song Generation:
After bands have been formed and announced on Newgrounds, they will then plan their song, and respectively work on their parts within the band. Bands will be given a one month time frame to compose their song. During this stage they may also want to create a band logo or hire an artist on Newgrounds to do so which will be used for their CD Icon.
Stage 3 Finalizing Songs:
Bands will be given an additional week or two to finalise their songs this may include fixing their mix, re-recording problem parts, etc. As well as finalising their artwork for their band and song.
Stage 4 Let the Battle Begin..:
Once songs have been finished, it’s time to commence the battle of the bands. With all songs ready to go, each band will publish their songs to Newgrounds to be voted on by the people of Newgrounds for a 2 week phase. After this phase the judges will have their say, casting their votes and then deciding on the winner of the Newgrounds battle of the bands.
Stage 5 The Finale:
When the winner is decided the judges will announce the results and post them on the official Battle of the bands thread on the audio BBS on Newgrounds. All songs will be assembled into one montage and published to the site to cement another chapter in the history of Newgrounds.
Rules:
- All songs should be .WAV 16 bit to be included in the final montage at the end of the collab.
- Songs should be a minimum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds long and a maximum length of 6 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Song lyrics can be NSFW as long as they don't exceed the M rating.
- Avoid over compressing your mix into a brick wall and making it too loud.
- Credit all your band members when publishing the song and note their roles in the description, as well as any artwork such as band logo/CD icon.
- Include your Band name, song name, and collaborators in the file name when sending your song.
Timeframe: minimum 1 month to 3 months. Once there is a fair amount of participants and judges then the competition will kick off and a deadline will be set.
We still need judges and sponsors for this contest. Ideally there will be prizes for the top 3 songs.
When publishing your song use the tag "Battle of the Bands" or "NG Battle of the Bands"
