Launching my game and earning a lot of patrons last year

Launching things this year and being negative on patrons :c (i have a pretty solid theory, maybe i'll discourse on that later)

Having people playing my game, having fun with it, asking help from other users, seeking walkthroughs, making game's inside jokes in comments. This was really fulfilling!

Starting with the introductory first round of questions:

a1. Who are you in general?

I've been trying to make a go at all sorts of creative stuff for years (writing, drawing, animating, game development) without making much real progress; and the whole time I was secretly relentlessly horny under the surface. So recently I decided to give a try at releasing some of that energy in a productive manner, made my 'Zalzup' account, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. I also have, for whatever reason, been more consistently productive with this NSFW stuff than I ever was with even my favorite SFW works.

a2. What inspired you to start drawing hentai?

Horniness. I have a few somewhat niche fetishes, and have always been highly dissatisfied with the low amount (and often quality) of content to satisfy said fetishes.

a3. What kinks/fetishes/styles do you specialise in?

Breathplay is my main thing, especially smothering (that is, covering the nose and mouth), as opposed to strangling or drowning (probably the two most popular types of breathplay). I also have a huge glove fetish (especially latex) and love just about everything BDSM, so that stuff is in there as well. The other major thing is I love a good non-consent fantasy, so a fair amount of my works contain kidnapping, rape, and death (by suffocation of course). 

When I started, I wanted to make a semi-self insert character I could use as the victim in all those fantasies; and so I made one and named him Victor Timm (Vic Timm, haha). I've given him a 'canonical' storyline over time, with a loving girlfriend dominatrix who gets up to all sorts of fully consensual breathplay shenanigans with him (and those two have comprised the bulk of my work so far); while still putting him in some non-canon scenes with other characters every once in a while. I also have been creating a few other settings and characters to play around in, including a genderswapped version of Vic that I plan to make a visual novel kind of game about (with magical, BDSM, Lesbian pirates); and my most popular so far, an order of sinister rubber nuns called the Sisters of Disposal who work as kidnappers, assassins, torturers, and more for hire.

a4. Do you plan on making a career out of your hentai or is it just something to do on the side?

I've made a bit of commission money, and want to open a subscribestar or something soon, so I would love if this turned into a small career, but we'll see.

I haven't had a lot, but I do hate dealing with all the self-promotion management crap that kind of needs to be done. I still haven't finished setting up my twitter for sharing my art.

Early on I made a friend with another artist over on DA who I've been a fan of for years and who really liked my work. He's been pretty awesome, so that's been nice.

b3. Most Interesting Experience

I've had nearly identical messages from like 6 'different' accounts (mostly on DA, but a couple on Pixiv) who all have the exact same request for 'a pillow smothering scene where the woman doing the smothering and the victim are both barefoot'. I'm not hugely into pillow smothering (most pillows are too breathable for that smothering sensation, as well as you can't see or feel the smotherer through it), but I did draw one like that early on. It's a pretty well liked piece, and I don't resent people for having really specific wants, but they still keep asking for more of it. We'll see, maybe someday I'll make more (maybe someday they'll decide to commission one, if it really is multiple people they should team up for a group commission to spread the costs).

As for the newest question (best tits in a normal movie), I honestly can't think of a good answer (although I'm sure I have one somewhere), I don't watch a ton of movies, and most of those don't have much in the way of exposed tits.

Who are you in general?

I'm Princess Usagi, I draw lewd OCs and rule 34 fan art, I've been an artist ever since I can remember.

What inspired you to start drawing hentai?

As a kid I was really into anime, I watched my first anime at 5 years old (DragonBall, the original when goku is a kid... and a teenager for like one season)

This started my obsession with anime, the original DB had a few soft lewd scenes but it wasn't until I watched an anime called Blue Seed when I was about 12ish that I discovered actual lewd cartoons, blue seed is still on the ecchi side of things but did have full nudity.

After that I explored more and created a huge binder of printed out pictures along with my own drawings.

Fast forward to about 14ish and my mom found said binder and thought I wanted to cause sexual violence to people (due to some images being bondage scenes) and tried to put me into therapy.

This kinda stiffled me on drawing hentai art for a very long time.

Now I'm much older and recently started drawing hentai again this year.

What kinks/fetishes/styles do you specialise in?

I don't specialize in anything specific, I like drawing all kinds of stuff, it's more like there is certain things I won't draw as I'm not into them rather then ones I focus on because I am.

Do you plan on making a career out of your hentai or is it just something to do on the side?

I'm not attempting to make a career out of it but if it happens that would kind of awesome. I do try and do my best work and only publish art I feel proud of but I feel I'm along way off before I could make ends meat let alone a career of it

Imposter syndrome, its happened to me once or twice since I started art again and it's very defeating, I'm glad both cases didn't last long but still a bad experience/feeling for sure

Finding out that almost every artist, huge following or not, usually has the same fears or insecurities about thier work, no matter how good they really are it seems we all think someone better then us, it's humbling yet makes me feel like we're all connected as a community in a strange kind of way.

1. I just go by FedorableX wherever I post art.
2. A few years ago, I commissioned an NSFW artist to draw one of my OCs. He didn't do that great of a job and I decided I could do better. Thus, how I came to be.
3. Bondage/Damsels in Distress, things along those lines. I also do comics from time to time.
4. It's pretty much an on the side thing. I already got a 9 to 5, so any commissions and what not is simply pocket money.

I like to think so; several things actually. The one that's taking most of my time right now is working on getting a subscribestar set up (including a couple projects exclusively for that); but the other big one at the moment is fleshing out the Sisters of Disposal, a setting/group of characters for fetish purposes. They are an order of evil rubber nuns who work as kidnappers, assassins, torturers, mind-controllers, and more, for hire.

I came up with a basic design a while back that I really liked, and have been slowly adding details the setting recently (I even got a commission to write a story someone's OC as a victim of theirs; which has been slow going, but fun).

I have a bunch of other stuff planned for the future, including a ton of comics and a couple Visual Novels, but the bulk of that is pretty far off for now.

I have no idea where to go to ask a question like this outside of starting a new topic so I thought I'd ask it here. I have a question for other NSFW artists out here, I want to know how you go about laying out the panels and pages of a comic, I'm finding it really hard to plan out what I want to draw in my head and make it fit in a way that flows nicely or in a visually interesting way.

The context of this comic is that this shaman guy summoned a thicc spirit to help his tribe and on this page she's trying to seduce him in return for helping him but doing so means he'd give up his piety and he'd lose his magic. I just can't think of how to sort of fit it all together so we see the build up of him getting teased by all her posing until he breaks down. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

For me, paneling and page layout is absolutely integral and interwoven with the visual writing and choices I make. It sounds like you're sort of separating the paneling from creating the pictures within them, and while that may work for you or others, it seems kind of foreign to me.

Anyway, how I write and layout comics is kind of like this:

• First I think of the story or events terms of small story beats or ideas. In your first page, you seem to have 2 basic ideas; he summons the spirit and we see that she's sexy.

• Second, I try and come up with how many panels and images I really need or want to get across each given idea/beat. You have 3 for the summoning (he's casting magic, the magic is doing something, and the result+his initial reaction), and 4 for the second (focusing on 4 different parts of the spirits body; breasts, hips, butt, and face). Personally, my style leans towards more panels with longer setups and transitions (if I was doing this idea from the ground up, I probably would have more panels showing the lead-up to the summoning and showing the magic actually happening) but that's just my preference. 

• Third, I divide the page into blocks where groups of panels fit together (a lot of this stage is intuition from practice over the years, as well as comparing to other pages, in the same comic especially, to make sure I'm not just using the same layout over and over).

• The key here is not that the story beats and ideas each get their own block, but that panels with distinct visual parallels or sequences (most easily chosen by camera angles) fill/share the blocks.

You can see how you've done this already back in your first page, the two panels of summoning share similar angles and panel proportions, and make kind of a single block of the page. The reaction/result panel occupies it's own space, and the zoom-in panels all share another block together.

[Side note: the panel showing her full-body shot after summoning might benefit from being flipped horizontally, the summoning panels have the magic coming from the left side and the guy on the right, and the camera swing around might not be as jarring if he still ended on the right and her on the left. Also, with her as the central piece of that panel, your eyes want to start with her and move on to the next panel, making it awkward to go back and get his reaction to her appearance; if he's on the right of that panel, your gaze moves from her to him to the next sequence of panels and it flows a little better]

Putting these ideas to the page you're working on, we seem to have: the discussion of sex and the cost it would have, and she decides to try and seduce him anyway (maybe even more so now that she knows). This last part is a little vague in your sketches in how it plays out, so there might actually be a split between her decision to seduce him and actually starting to do it.

For step two, you have a pretty simple and effective way to show the discussion in 2 panels, and (if I'm reading this correctly) 2 panels (or 1 with a little reaction window) that seems to be her being like 'are you sure you don't want this?' and his reaction, followed by 1 panel of her trollfuly noticing that he does indeed want it, and 1 more of her further enticing him.

Those last 3 are a little disjointed, so I would suggest something like this:

Keep the first 2 panels the same and in the same place, next, move her troll face up to beneath his nosebleed and next to her first tease (putting the reactions and decision all in 1 block). The bottom row I would suggest 2 or 3 panels of her enticement and poses with 2 or 3 windows of his increasingly tempted reaction (putting that sequence in its own block), which would easily lead into the next page starting with him giving in (if that's what happens next).

Yeah that is what happens next, thanks for the feedback! I am aware that the best thing to do is try and plan the content of each page and the layout together, I just have a lot of trouble doing it usually because I guess I just come up with the idea first and I worry about making it look right in my eyes before I try to fit it on the page.

Okay I'm back again, this time I thought I'd show you what I had after getting advice and ask for a second opinion on something.

I was talking with another friend about this, we both agreed this was well put together but he thought that the first four panels in the top left corner could be their own page and make a more effective build up for her posing and his reactions on another page. What do you guys think? I sort of agree but I'm not 100% sure.

1 I'm actually an alt account of a more SFW geared account here, and I just decided not to dirty that account with naughty things from elsewhere. But I am Schwarzeralptraum elsewhere; you might have seen me on Paperdemon, Mastodon, Pixiv or maybe some Discord channel. Not much on Tumblr anymore for obvious reasons. I don't have a lot of my art in this account yet; that will happen slowly over time. The rest of my stuff you can find in the links on my profile.

2 I did used to be a little curious about it, but not that badly. I think it started getting worse around the time I was doing art trades with other people, and they had naughtier things than me, but it just sort of hit off and I've been doing it ever since. This rarely happens, or people don't leave comments indicating such, but I also do like to draw NSFW things to make people squirm. It has even happened at least once where someone left a comment to that effect on a gay picture, and they admitted that kink wasn't their thing.

3 Mostly gay bara things, top heavy characters and/or older guys in the dark fantasy direction, so demons and vampires. My stuff can get somewhat gory, but without being over the top. I do occasionally draw straight stuff. I have been told my stuff is different because I don't focus on porn for porn's sake.

4 I just do this on the side for fun. I find I work better on art when it's something I feel like drawing rather than what someone with money wants me to draw for them.

Best experience

I did a collab with someone on DeviantArt where I did the lineart and they colored it, and the final piece ended up getting a daily deviation.

I have also had a few nice art trades with other people.

Worst experience

I was offering art for Gaia Online currency sometime ago and found after doing several rounds of it, I got really burned out from doing stuff I wasn't as interested in. Sure, there were a few interesting ones, but some I was a bit borderline interested in, and because it wasn't 100% what I wanted to do, I felt totally drained from it afterwards.

I did also once have someone hang around on my DeviantArt, demanding birthday gift art among other things through private notes. I did ask her to stop, but I think it took her the second try before she finally gave up.

Most interesting experience

When you draw some random fanart, think nothing of it, and it immediately gets all these faves and attention. Even more than the works you spend the most time and effort on, and are most proud of. I had this happen on Tumblr almost every time I drew Ganondorf.

1. I'm a dude looking to refine the art of eroticism to at some point make art that makes people feel that surge of horny! I also just like to draw sexy women. I enjoy helping other artists in study and just talking about topics in the NSFW field though I am just as interactive in my "main" accounts.

Just the feeling when I saw some good NSFW works piqued my interest, I mean yes the horny but also just the great compositions, expressions, poses, especially the detail to a scene really made it unique. I was already doing nude figure practice I just took that and tried to make an NSFW work while joining some communities and boom been doing it ever since. Overall the NSFW community have some fun personalities and great works.
3. I specialize in a painterly style though I can do line-art I just prefer digital painterly for most my work. I'm honestly pretty vanilla when it comes to kinks and fetishes though my most fav thing is drawing hot women in some sexy lingerie I just love the detail I can put into the outfit.
4. I wouldn't say I'd make a career out of it but doing commissions for side money is always great since I enjoy making the art and if a person enjoys it even better.

1. Worst Experience: Having this amazing piece I put so much study into and having the file corrupt due to a thunderstorm power surge happen. i may revisit it but damn it took my personal energy to work on it out.
